Clean Water for Healthy Lives Project.
An Initiative by Destin Charity Women Association – Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, Uganda
Access to clean and safe water is a basic human right, yet many families in our community still walk long distances to fetch unsafe water from contaminated sources. The image above reflects the daily struggle faced by our people, women and children collecting muddy water from open trenches along the road. This situation exposes them to waterborne diseases, limits time for education, and affects general well-being.
Our Mission.
To restore hope and dignity by ensuring that every household within our reach has access to clean, safe, and reliable water for domestic use, agriculture, and sanitation.
The Challenge.
In Nyamwamba Division and neighboring areas, access to safe water remains a pressing challenge. Many rural communities depend on stagnant ponds, roadside trenches, or distant streams. This leads to:
Increased cases of cholera, typhoid, and dysentery.
Children, especially girls, missing school as they spend hours fetching water.
Women facing physical strain and insecurity while traveling long distances.
Poor hygiene and sanitation due to water scarcity.
Our Proposed Solution.
Destin Charity Women Association proposes a Community Clean Water Project aimed at:
- Constructing protected water points (spring wells and boreholes) in strategic villages.
- Rehabilitating broken water systems to restore safe water supply.
- Installing water storage tanks for schools and community centers.
- Training local water committees on maintenance, hygiene, and sustainability.
- Conducting community sensitization on safe water handling and sanitation practices.
Expected Outcomes
Over 500 households to gain direct access to clean and safe water.
Reduction in waterborne diseases by more than 70%.
Improved school attendance, especially for girls.
Enhanced livelihoods through access to water for small-scale farming.
Empowered communities taking ownership of their water sources.
Long-Term Impact.
This project will not only save lives but will also transform communities by promoting health, education, and economic growth. Access to clean water is a foundation for a stronger and more resilient society, one where children can dream, women can thrive, and families can live in dignity.
